ACS150 JACS Symposium opens in Zurich

On January 12, researchers, journal editors, and especially Nobel Prize winner Mungi Bawendi gathered in Zurich for a two-day event focused on collaboration and innovation across the fields of nanoscience and energy. The event is first in a series Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the American Chemical Society and its flagship magazine. Journal of the American Chemical Society, Participants had the opportunity to participate in panel discussions and poster sessions with researchers as an opportunity to present their research.

“What better way to recognize a historic milestone like our 150th anniversary than with a series of in-person events that recognize chemistry’s past, present, and future,” said Sarah Teigen, senior vice president and chief publishing officer, ACS Publications. “These will bring together the brightest minds in chemistry, showcasing the high-quality science and renowned experts published across the ACS journal portfolio.”

Other events in this series include:

  • The Chemical Society of Japan Spring Meeting was held in Funabashi on March 18th.
  • Chinese Chemical Society General Meeting held in Chongqing, China on April 12th
  • The Korean Chemical Society general meeting was held on April 15th in Jeju Island, South Korea.
  • Indian Scientific Cultivation Association Kolkata, meeting held in Kolkata, India in July
  • ACS Fall 2026 will be held in Chicago in August
  • September 10th, University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa
  • Atlantic Basin Chemistry Conference to be held in Brazil in December

These events will feature 70 speakers from five continents, including at least four Nobel Prize winners. “Each symposium is unique and covers different aspects of science across topics including nanoscience and energy, biochemistry and medicinal chemistry, polymer chemistry, environmental chemistry, and more. We aimed to make this series truly global and interdisciplinary, with something for every chemist,” said Teo Pulvirenti, vice president of global editorial strategy at ACS Publications. “Each event will be a hub of innovation, featuring special keynote addresses by Nobel Prize winners, dynamic panel discussions with leading innovators, and interactive poster sessions that provide young researchers with a valuable platform to showcase their work on a global stage.”
