‘Drug-related criminal history’: Dilraj Singh Gill shot dead in Canada, suspected of gang war

A 28-year-old Vancouver man with known gang ties was shot and killed in Burnaby Thursday night. Investigators believe this is the latest in an escalating gang war in British Columbia. Dilraj Singh Gill was shot near the 3700 block of Canada Way just before 5:30 p.m. and died at the scene.IHIT Sergeant Frieda Fong said the incident was extremely concerning. “Shootings, especially in public places, are extremely concerning, not only to police but to the community as a whole,” she said, urging witnesses to come forward.Burnaby RCMP officers arrived and found Gill with serious injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he could not be saved. Shortly after the shooting, a burning vehicle was found about 2.5 miles away in the 5000 block of Buxton Street. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) later confirmed that the torched vehicle was connected to the killing.

“History of drug-related convictions.”

Gill had a history of drug-related convictions. In 2021, he was concurrently sentenced for human trafficking offenses stemming from a 2018 arrest in North Vancouver where police found cash, crack cocaine, a mixture of heroin and fentanyl. Previous convictions include fleeing police and additional human trafficking charges dating back to 2016, the Vancouver Sun reported.Officials cited by the Vancouver Sun told Postmedia that Gill’s killing is believed to be related to an ongoing gang war and may be related to the recent killing of Navpreet Dhaliwal in Abbotsford. Dhaliwal claims links to the Brother’s Keepers gang and has previously been the subject of a police warning. According to court records, Gill had ties to the Kang/BIBO group, which reportedly had violent conflicts with the Brothers Keepers and later merged into the United Nations gang.Police say the shooting was targeted and there is no ongoing danger to the public. Investigators are seeking dashcam and security camera footage from the area of Canada Way and Buxton Street during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
