Jos Buttler etched his name in the record books on Saturday by reaching 4,000 runs in T20 Internationals, becoming the first wicketkeeper-batsman and overall fastest batsman in terms of facing the ball. The England star achieved this record in just 2,670 deliveries, surpassing the previous standard held by Rohit Sharma. The milestone took place during the Group C match between England and Scotland in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Kolkata. Chasing 153 runs and needing just three runs to reach the mark, Buttler reached 4,000 on the fourth ball of his second over. The occasion was doubly special as it was also his 150th T20I appearance for England, making him the only English player and one of only five worldwide to play more than 150 matches in this format. However, his stay was short-lived. Shortly after reaching the landmark, Butler tipped off a catch from Brad Curry by Brandon McMullen and was sent off for 3 of 4 balls.Buttler is the fourth cricketer to break the 4,000-run barrier in T20Is, joining Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam. Kohli became the first player to achieve this feat during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final against England at Adelaide Oval.Since making his T20I debut against India in 2011, Buttler has scored over 4,000 runs at an average of over 35 and a strike rate of 148. His record includes 28 fifties and a highest score of 101. Remarkably, he is the only designated wicketkeeper to cross the 4,000-run mark in T20I history.Former England captain Buttler is now firmly established as the country’s top scorer in T20Is, far ahead of Eoin Morgan who has scored 2,458 runs in 115 matches. Widely regarded as one of England’s best white-ball players, Buttler is also a valuable asset in T20 leagues around the world.
