Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Monday launched a preventive vaccination drive against cervical cancer for girls aged 14-15 years at Jaitala urban primary health centre. The initiative was inaugurated by Mayor Neeta Thakre, who highlighted the importance of creating widespread awareness about the HPV vaccine among students and parents.Addressing the gathering, Thakre said the risk of cervical cancer is constantly increasing and vaccination is an important step towards prevention. He urged the authorities to carry out awareness campaigns not only in municipal schools, but also in private educational institutions to ensure much broader participation. CMN commissioner Vipin Itankar said creating awareness among parents of girls aged 14-15 years is crucial to prevent cervical cancer. Health committee chairperson Manisha Atkare said adequate stocks of vaccines will be ensured. Chief Medical Health Officer Dr Deepak Selokar said the vaccine will be made available in phases at all urban primary health centers present across the city.
