PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Snow plow crews continued to move truckloads of snow to the city’s 37 designated dumpsites on Tuesday, but many residents on small nearby streets said they were still waiting for the first plows.
Some long-time city dwellers shrugged their shoulders at the sight of a buried car outside their homes, claiming it was a part of the area.
“This is a side street, it always has been,” said Joe Lange, a Bridesburg resident. Action News found some roads in the neighborhood covered in snow, with some residents scrambling their cars in groups to get out, while others were resigned to staying stranded.
“It’s going to last until at least Saturday. We’ve had to cancel some appointments, but that’s the way it is,” Lange said.
In Mayfair, parked cars blocked the road on Sterling Street, making it impossible for snow plow operators to navigate through narrow side streets. But Malhon Sutton, who has lived here for 15 years, said snow plows rarely drive through.
“Not really. About once in a blue moon,” Sutton said. “You just dig yourself out.”
Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi said crews are working to reach these small roads, using small excavators to move through narrow city blocks.
“We’re coming, we’re coming to a neighborhood near you,” Del Rossi promised.
However, she warned that the surgery would take several days.
“We haven’t had snow like this in a while. I haven’t done a lifting set since 2016,” she said.
Officials warned that temporary road closures may occur as multiple pieces of equipment are deployed to clear difficult areas.
Residents are still encouraged to submit complaints to 311, which the city uses to identify and prioritize problem areas.
