Cardinal Dolan celebrates his last mass

MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN (WABC) — A new era is about to begin for New York City’s Catholic community.

On Sunday, Cardinal Timothy Dolan led the final Mass to a packed St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Cardinal Dolan turned 75 last year, the age at which Catholic bishops are required to retire. He led the Archdiocese of New York for 16 years.

Pope Leo XIV named Bishop Ronald Hicks of Illinois as Bishop Dolan’s successor.

Hicks is scheduled to be officially installed Friday.
