AccuWeather warnings are in effect Sunday through Monday for heavy snow, coastal snowstorms, high winds, coastal flooding and coastal erosion.

Sunday will be cloudy and cool with a chance of rain and snow, with a high of 39 degrees.

As temperatures drop, precipitation will turn to snow in places by the evening.

A winter storm warning is in effect for most of the region, including Philadelphia, and a blizzard warning is in effect for parts of New Jersey and Delaware.

Light rain is expected from Sunday morning. Snow showers may begin to fall in the northwestern part of the city. When ground temperatures rise above freezing and temperatures drop into the mid-30s, snow can initially melt when it hits the ground.

A mix of rain and snow is expected around Philadelphia, with scattered showers expected across the South and East.

The high temperature on Sunday is expected to reach around 39 degrees, but temperatures are expected to drop in the evening.

As temperatures drop later in the evening, any rain or mixed precipitation will turn to snow. The timing of the heaviest overnight snowfall provides ideal conditions for snow accumulation.

Motorists are urged to use caution and stay off the roads from Sunday evening until Monday morning as snow continues to fall and snowfall levels increase.

By Monday morning, the snow will begin to taper from west to east as the coastal storm continues to strengthen and move away from the coast.

How much snow is there?

The storm is expected to dump 12 to 18 inches of snow on coastal areas of South Jersey and Delaware.

Eight to 12 inches of snow is expected to fall in Philadelphia, many suburbs, interior southern Jersey, and other parts of Delaware.

The rest of the observation area is expected to see 4 to 8 inches of snow.

A very strong lift is developing in the atmosphere, which could result in a blizzard with thunderstorms in southeastern New Jersey and southern Delaware.

Wind gusts along the coast are expected to reach 80 mph.

Coastal flooding and coastal erosion are possible.
