After almost 22 years, the Hiace is finally set to receive some useful updates in Japan for the 2026 model year. Let’s check the details.

2026 Toyota Hiace – What’s new?

The Japanese-spec Toyota Hiace was last updated in 2013. In doing so, the front fascia was refreshed with updates to the grille, lighting elements and bumper. Other than that, there are no major exterior changes to the 2026 Toyota Hiace in Japan.

Moving inside, you’ll notice updates like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Both of these are offered as standard on all variants of the 2026 Hiace. The touchscreen can be used for navigation and accessing panoramic view monitor features.

The base model is equipped with a new back door stop function, further improving its practicality. By comparison, higher trims focus on increased comfort and convenience. By the way, the 2026 Hiace Super GL is equipped with front seat heaters as standard.

passenger safety The 2026 Toyota Hiace has also been improved. The updated model is equipped with Toyota’s latest Safety Sense suite, which brings comprehensive ADAS features. Key highlights include lane change assist, radar cruise control with curve speed control, and road sign assist. The van also has a more robust pre-crash safety system with a wider range of collision avoidance features.

Customization options

The 2026 Hiace continues to offer a wide range of optional upgrades and accessories. These include exterior styling kits and interior customization with Modellista and GR Parts. A wide range of genuine Toyota accessories are also available to cover both leisure and commercial needs.

To demonstrate the Hiace’s customization options, Toyota showcased several custom styles for the van. For example, the Overland is suitable for outdoor use, while the Active Cruiser is suitable for surfing and water sports. Similarly, Cool Luxury is for the highway, while Urban City is for the daily commute. There is also the Craftsman, which is especially suited for construction workers.

same powertrain

The 2026 Toyota Hiace continues with the same powertrain options as before. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produces 160 PS and 182 Nm of torque. Buyers can also opt for a 2.8-liter diesel engine that produces 151 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Hiace is available with both RWD and 4WD drivetrain options.
