The Mini2Plus V2 vanity box looks like this.

The inner box was pitch black.

Includes inner box, manual, warranty documents, and hard case.

The instruction manual also includes Japanese pages.

I opened the hard case.

The lid inside the hard case is exposed.

This is the Mini2Plus V2 main body.

When you remove the rubber cover that covered the lens part, it looks like this. The Mini2Plus V2 is characterized by the ability to manually control the focus, and the area around the lens is dial-shaped.

This is what it looks like from the front.

The size is 26.6mm wide x 26.6mm high x 25mm in appearance. It looks like this when lined up with iPhone 16 with a long side of 147.6 mm.

There is a “HIKMICRO” logo on the back.

USB-C connector on the top.

On the bottom are the letters “Mini2Plus V2”, the number, and the CE mark.

This time I installed the iOS version on the iPhone version. At the time of writing the article, there was no difference in functionality between the iOS and Android versions.

When you start HIKMICRO Viewer, a brief explanation will be displayed, so tap “Skip” at the top right.

The privacy policy will be displayed, so tap “Agree”.

User registration is not required to use HIKMICRO Viewer. The app has a simple UI, with only three items at the bottom: “Device,” “Album,” and “Settings.” Under “Devices” tap “+” in the top right corner.

Tap Add Device.

Select “Thermal Imager (Plug-in)”.

An illustration instructing you to insert Mini2Plus V2 into your iPhone was displayed.

I connected Mini2Plus V2 to the USB-C port of iPhone 16.

Now, the infrared camera screen is allowed on HIKMICRO Viewer as shown below. Setup and connection are now OK.

◆I tried shooting with HIKMICRO Viewer
When you start the application with the Mini2Plus V2 main unit connected to your smartphone, it looks like this. When starting for the first time, an explanation of SuperIR, which is a high quality mode, will be displayed, so tap “OK”.

An explanation of “automatic correction” that automatically corrects temperature measurement accuracy every few tens of seconds.

“Scene mode” is a mode that enables more accurate temperature measurement by setting the emissivity of the target in advance. Tap OK.

Mini2Plus V2 allows you to adjust the measurement parameters to increase temperature accuracy and customize distance and target emissivity. When you tap the thermometer icon at the top of the app screen, the adjustment screen will be displayed as shown below.

To shoot, tap the button in the center.

This is a photo of the figure actually placed on the desk.

I took a photo of the moment I put my hand in front of the figure, put it there for a while, and then let go.

I took a photo of the rice cooker in the kitchen. The rice cooker is kept warm at 30 to 40 degrees. The temperature for other parts is around 10, which is slightly lower than room temperature.

This is what the meal looked like. The rice, soup, and side dish of ginger-grilled pork are at a high temperature of around 50 degrees. You can see that the water in the upper left corner is quite low at around 10 degrees.

A photo of the air conditioner with the heating function turned on in the morning. You can see that the temperature at the air outlet is particularly high, and the surrounding walls are lower than the air conditioner itself and the curtains.

By tapping the camera icon at the bottom right, you can switch between photo and video shooting modes.

When focusing on the measurement target, manual adjustment is possible by turning the dial around the lens.

I actually filmed a movie where I manually focused the measurement on the figure.

◆Various settings of HIKMICRO Viewer
Numerical measurements are possible at “Center (center of screen),” “Maximum (Temperature),” and “Minimum (Temperature).” The measured temperature can be selected by tapping the icon on the far left at the bottom of the screen, and the value will be displayed at the top left of the screen.

Furthermore, it is possible to measure the temperature of any place you tap with “Point”, and the center, maximum, and minimum of any area you select by swiping “Rectangle”.

The second icon from the left at the bottom of the screen allows you to change the tint of the thermography.

You can change the camera image by tapping the icon in the center. You can choose from three options: “Thermal”, which displays only thermal images, “Momentary Light”, which displays images taken with a smartphone camera simultaneously, and “Fusion”, which combines the two.

The fourth icon from the left allows you to change brightness, contrast, density, and color distribution.

With the rightmost icon, you can set the “temperature range”, the “temperature unit” that determines degrees Celsius, degrees Fahrenheit, and Kelvin, the “temperature alarm” that sounds an alarm when a certain temperature is detected, the “rotation” that rotates the camera screen in 90 degree increments, and the “temperature scale” that continues to show or hide the temperature scale displayed on the right side of the screen.

Mini2Plus V2 can measure in two temperature ranges: Level 1 from -20°C to 150°C and Level 2 from 100°C to 400°C. Level 1 should be selected if the temperature is around room temperature, and Level 2 should be selected in environments where high temperatures are expected.

Below is a photo taken from the side of a pot filled with water and set on fire at temperature range level 1.

And this is what it looks like at temperature range level 2. Level 2 allows you to photograph higher temperatures, so you can see that the measurement results are particularly detailed around the fire.

◆Save photos taken with Mini2Plus V2
Photos taken with Mini2Plus V2 are saved within the HIKMICRO Viewer app. Tap the bottom left of the camera screen to access the HIKMICRO Viewer album.

To access the album, you can also select the “Album” tab from the bottom of the HIKMICRO Viewer top screen. Tap the check mark in the top left.

Select the photos or videos you want to extract and tap “Save” at the bottom of the screen.

The first time, you will be asked for permission to access “Photos”, so tap “Permit”.

When you tap “Save 2 images”, the photos and videos you took will be copied to the photo library in “Photos”.
