On January 29, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications compiled the results of reports from fire departments across the country regarding fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.
According to the report, there were 601 fires caused by lithium-ion batteries, etc. in 2022, 739 in 2023, 982 in 2024, and 550 in 2025.
Specifically, the results show that half of the fires reported are related to waste treatment facilities, indicating that incorrect disposal methods are an issue.
Among these, the most common cause of mobile battery fires is not only product defects, but also external shocks and use or storage at high temperatures. Therefore, users are also required to follow the correct usage.
