NBA rumors regarding Rockets’ trade deadline plans: “talking to about half of the league”

Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone is reportedly busy gathering information ahead of the February 5th trade deadline.

Yahoo Sports” Kelly Iko On Friday, the Rockets reported that they had “held discussions with approximately half of the league” leading up to the deadline.

Iko noted that Houston “does not have a firm offer in either direction that would require serious internal discussions.”

“What they have is an understanding of what they want to do and a little understanding of what the team wants,” Iko wrote.

Iko said Rockets players who have received interest from other teams this season include Tali Eason, Dorian Finney-Smith and Clint Capela. Iko pointed out that none of that interest has translated into anything “concrete.”

Meanwhile, the Rockets are not interested in potential trade candidates such as the Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant or the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul, and are “not very interested” in moves involving the Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball or the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Darius Garland, Iko reported.

Iko’s report was announced amid a continued slump for the Rockets, who had boosted their hopes of making the playoffs by acquiring Kevin Durant last offseason.

The Rockets have lost five of their last seven games, dropping to sixth place in the Western Conference.

Most recently, the Rockets shot just 34 percent from the field and 29 percent from deep, including a 111-91 loss to the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night.

Houston has 11 games remaining, including seven at home, before the trade window closes in early February.

Durant and the Rockets’ ability to bounce back from this period could impact how Stone ultimately evaluates his roster ahead of the trade deadline.
