Keith Titmus family sues Manly Sea Eagles over son’s tragic death after pre-season training

Manly Sea Eagles are hit with a multi-million dollar lawsuit from the family of former player Keith Titmus, who died of “heat stroke” after a training session.

Titmus died at the age of just 20 on November 23, 2020, in hospital hours after suffering a seizure following grueling training under the hot sun during Manly’s pre-season.

A post-mortem examination found the rising NRL star’s cause of death was “exertional heat stroke” and Titmus’ pre-existing heart disease was not a contributing factor.

Ms Titmus’ mother, father and brother have filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Manley in the New South Wales Supreme Court seeking damages.

Mr. Raffo, Mr. Paul, and Mr. Jesse filed a statement of claim against Manley with the Supreme Court on December 19th.

The club is suing Manley in a personal injury case for failing to provide a safe working environment and breaching its duty of care to Titmus, according to court records.

The amount of damages each family is seeking has not been made clear in court.

The Supreme Court has jurisdiction to hear cases exceeding $1.5 million each, without a cap.

A Manley spokesperson said: “We have no comment at this time.”

This comes as the club is also being sued for $5 million by former player Lloyd Perrett, who claims that Perrett was hospitalized with severe heat stroke as he was expected to train in harsh training conditions.
