Australian Open Live: Andreeva advances easily after Zverev and de Minaur advance

The third round of the Australian Open begins on Friday, with notable players such as Carlos Alcaraz, Arina Sabalenka and Coco Gauff looking to punch their ticket to the second week of the tournament.

Things are looking very good now that most of the big names have finally won and we are inching closer to the business end of the tournament, with some intriguing fourth-round matchups already on the table.

14:04 CET – In the final match of the day, eighth seed Mira Andreva easily defeated Belgium’s Elena Gabriela Ruse, winning 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes. Her next match is against Svitolina.

13:50 CET – The mercurial Alexander Bublik set up a blockbuster fourth-round fight with Alex de Minaur thanks to a close 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Thomas Martin Hetchberry.

12:21 Central European Time – Alexander Zverev overcame a wobble in the second set to defeat Cameron Norrie 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in two hours and 47 minutes to secure a spot in the next round.

Central European Time 12:03 – Men’s sixth seed and local favorite Alex de Minaur proved too strong against Francis Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 and advanced to the fourth round.

Australia will face either 10th seed Alexander Bublik or Argentina’s Tomas Martin Echeverry for a spot in the quarter-finals.

10:54 CET – In the penultimate women’s match of the day, 12th seed Elina Svitolina advanced to the last 16 with an impressive 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Diana Schneider.

Central European Time 10:10 – Francisco Cerundro reached the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career with a commanding 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over 13th seed Andrei Rublev.

09:13 CET – Rising star Iva Jovic continued her run in Melbourne, with the 18-year-old American defeating seventh seed Jasmine Paolini in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (3).

07:48 CET – After dropping the first set, third-seeded Coco Gauff came from behind to beat compatriot Haley Baptiste 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, setting the stage for a close fourth-round match against Karolina Muchova.

07:43 CET – Karolina Muchova was in great form this morning, crushing Magda Lynette 6-1, 6-1 in just 63 minutes.

07:19 CET – Men’s top seed Carlos Alcaraz reached the fourth round in Melbourne, with the Spaniard proving too strong against Corentin Moutet comfortably 6-2, 6-4, 6-1. He will next face No. 19 seed Tommy Paul.

Meanwhile, in the women’s competition, Yulia Putintseva defeated Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez in a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3.

05:25 CET – Daniil Medvedev bounced back from two sets down and worked hard for himself to advance to the second week with a 6-7 (5), 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, 6-3 victory over Fabian Marozan. The world No. 12 had 28 break chances in the match, converting 11 of them.

03:45 CET – The first three results of the day were announced. On the women’s side, world number one Aryna Sabalenka overcame two nervy tie-breaks to ultimately defeat Anastasia Potapova 7-6(4), 7-6(7). Despite committing 44 unforced errors, Sabalenka took the lead at key points and advanced to the fourth round.

Next up was last year’s finalist Victoria Mboko, who defeated Clara Towson 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3. Both fighters were broken five times in the match, but in the end the Canadian held on to win.

Lerner Tien defeated Nuno Borges 7-6 (9), 6-4, 6-2, becoming the first male to reach the third round with an under. The 25th seed converted five break points on eight attempts to help him break through.
