Google Messages originally had location sharing, but it was for pins pinned to a map. It lasts for a while as long as you stay in the same place, but it’s not very useful when you’re on the move. The difference with this new feature is that location information is updated as you move, making it much easier to meet up with your partner.

Location information can be shared with individual contacts or groups.
How to share your sudden location in Google Messages
The new feature is located in the same location as the old location sharing feature. Open the message and tap the attachment icon in the bottom left. Rather than abolishing the existing location information sharing feature, Google has divided it into sharing functions that use location information and limited one-time sharing.
When sharing location information, you can select the sharing time. The options are “1 hour”, “today (ends at midnight)”, “until I turn it off”, or “any time within 24 hours”.
