Everton were finally able to end their home winning streak. 2-0 win over Burnley on Tuesday night.
James Tarkowski and Keenan Dewsbury-Hall scored on either side of the halftime break to give the Blues their first win since early December at Hill Dickinson Stadium. They remain in 8th place in the league with 43 points.
Tarkowski scored his first goal of the season, rising highest to meet James Garner’s free-kick and press it towards goal, giving his former club the lead. Meanwhile, defensive partner Jarrad Branthwaite came close to doubling the hosts’ lead when he tested Martin Dubravka from close range.
Everton finally secured a solid goal in the second half with a goal from Keenan Dewsbury-Hall. The midfielder completed a quick counter-attack to seal all three points at home.
Everton’s player evaluations after a comfortable 2-0 win over Burnley at home are as follows:
Jordan Pickford: 7.5
pulled out yet another In the final moments, he made a great final save to deny Lyle Foster. There was little else to do other than that moment.
Jake O’Brien: 6
We had a quiet night, but we kept things neat and tidy.
James Tarkowski: 8
He scored the first goal for the host team with a powerful header, sparking a celebration. He also put up a great challenge against Hannibal and held the final line well.
Jarrad Branthwaite (replaced by Michael Keane in the 83rd minute): 8
Branthwaite could have doubled Everton’s lead in the first half with a header, but Dubravka did well to deny it. He became much better in his natural role as a centre-back and was happy to carry the ball from the back.
Vitaly Mykolenko: 6
Mykolenko was guilty of playing an ill-advised backpass that could have led to a chance for Burnley. He also didn’t offer much going forward, but had a decent game otherwise.
Idrissa Gana Nguye (substituted by Tim Irogbunam in the 86th minute): 7.5
Gana stole the ball from Kyle Walker, cut inside and fired a shot that hit the crossbar, causing the entire stadium to stand up. He found space to move forward and team up with compatriot Ndiaye.
However, Guye could have done better on the counter-attack, delaying the release of the ball to Ndiayi and putting Ndiayi in an offside position.
James Garner: 8
Garner continues to be a big threat from set pieces and once again it was his set piece delivery that led to the hosts scoring in the first half. He also kept things moving throughout the contest.
Keenan Dewsbury Hall: 8.5
Dewsbury-Hall was at the heart of everything Everton did in the second half. He kept trying to force things with his run and movement and finally got his reward by scoring the winner at the one-hour mark. Everton’s number 22 got to the end of Ndiaye’s unfathomable pass and finished by chipping the keeper from a wide angle.
Dwight McNeil (replaced by Tyrik George in 86 minutes): 8
It was McNeil’s probing pass to Ndiaye that led to Dewsbury Hall’s goal. The winger, who has struggled of late, had his best game in a while. He held the ball well and contributed to the second goal. The strong performance received applause from the home fans.
Iliman Ndiaye (replaced by Tyler Dibring in 90+2 minutes): 8.5
The Everton wizard appears to have rediscovered his bright side once again. It continued to glide, slipping past the danger on its left flank. Had Gana delivered an earlier pass, Ndiaye could have found the back of the net, but it was his careful pass that sealed the winning goal for the hosts in the second half. He left the pitch to thunderous applause.
Beto (substituted by Tierno Barry in the 83rd minute): 6
Other than a header that went wide of the goal early in the second half, there were few chances in front of goal.
replacement
Michael Keene: 5
He came off the bench to give Branthwaite a rest and strengthen the backline.
Tierno Barry: 5
I didn’t have a chance to make an impression.
Tilik George: 6
Introduced to provide fresh legs on the wing.
Tim Irogbunam: 5
He made a cameo off the bench midway through, reinforcing the midfield and resting Gana’s legs for a few minutes.
Tyler Dibling: N/A

Beto 6 is fucking ridiculous. I’m not a fan, but his overall play was worth 8 points. And what’s the proof? Just look at how long it took Barry to show up. Today I understand why some people still trust Beto. 6 is really embarrassing.
Anjishnu’s educated comment: “Other than a header that went wide of the goal early in the second half, we had almost no chances in front of the goal.”
Total bollocks.

Neil Mate – 1 – When George appeared, I watched him carefully. Neil, he never touched the ball. Never.
he chased the ball. And knowledgeable Evertonian Anjishnu gave him the same rating as Beto. He never touched the ball. Good job, Anjishnu.

Fortunately, the rating given by Anjishnu means absolutely nothing outside of this increasingly obscure betting site branded as the Everton Fans Forum. I would be surprised if players knew about them.
I thought Beto did his best during the match. Although he was a limited number of players, he must have been exhausted by the end.
Overall I think we played as a team and we had some impressive passes, but at times more than 20 passes ended up going back to Pickford.
It says a lot about our No. 9, even though he was at his best.

It would be funny if you were trying to bet when a race or match was about to start. I’m not a fan of gambling myself, but I think it takes away the thrill and probably decent odds (sic) for those who place bets.

I’m on your side when it comes to Beto, Anjishnu. When the ball comes towards him, he appearance Unlike Barry, he seems like a real centre-forward, but he achieved very little last night.
It’s disgusting to see the ball go to Barry these last few weeks. I’m not going to support him just to win the battle with the mascot cleanly. Beto, on the other hand, looks much more plausible, but his success rate isn’t really that great.
He won about a quarter of the 50-50 balls that Calvert-Lewin would win. What he won was often wasted by his allocation. Twice he was overtaken in the box, unable to clear his man and seemed content to simply win a corner.
Most of our attacking threat came from the good performance of our midfield.

My golf handicap is adjusted up or down depending on the difficulty of the course I play.
I would suggest that all these scores should be reduced by at least one point to reflect the fact that the opponents were the dreaded Burnley. They compare favorably with some of the League One and Two teams they have faced in the early rounds of cup competitions in recent years. They go straight down.
And the half mark still bothers me!
Post date 04/03/2026 09:51:50
I would have given Beto at least a 7.
Apart from not scoring, he had a good game.
Post date 04/03/2026 09:56:10
However, I think Beto is more effective when away from home.
At home, he goes back to the goal more and gets into footwork and link plays.
On the away side we are more forward-looking, running into spaces and using our pace.
I think he’s much more comfortable with the latter than the former.
But I’m glad he contributed.

Ian, watch the game again, stupid post.

Beto was great against Burn and had a great work rate in the last two games. He can hold the ball, thwart players and create opportunities for anyone who runs away from him.
Dewsbury Hall was an 8 for me, but they play loose passes, especially in defensive positions.
There was some great link-up play, and while the transitions weren’t the quickest at times, they were decent and far better than what Burnley have been offering.
The atmosphere in the stadium was heightened by the performance of the players, and everyone achieved a good result, earning us 3 points!

I watch him live every week, Paul.
I know what I see from him, I know what he’s good at and I know what he struggles with.

I thought Beto played well last night.
If we don’t keep him, more displays like that will be of interest to buying clubs.

Good luck Anjish.
It’s always interesting to see the reactions.

Beto is no Eric Cantona, but he was great last night.
His improvement in performance coincided with him abandoning the ridiculous tactic of a lone striker constantly slamming the ball down to compete with two or three defenders.
I think about 50,000 people knew it wasn’t going to work all season long, but unfortunately they had to wait for the money to drop thanks to Mr. Brightside. Let’s hope it stays dropped.

It’s funny how seriously some people take these ratings. They should be all over the map.
I’ve never done that because it’s hard to know and weigh all of the players’ contributions. And I admit that their mistakes always stand out to me, which makes me very critical.
Who was the one we used to have who only had three marks? If you played well you got 7 points, if you didn’t you got 6 points and on the very rare occasion you did something great you got 8 points. This half mark looks a little tacky.
Maybe the default should be 5 to build a team and run around a bit, and adjust up or down depending on whether they contributed or not? 6 if they did a little. 7 Pretty good. 8 is really impressive. 9 for simply excellent, 10 for “out of this world”! (Jordan Pickford on Saturday)

The ratings are pretty much the same as mine, except Beto deserves a 7.
We looked like a like-minded team in this game, but as others have said, it could depend on how good the opponent is.

Anjishnu
I think your rating, again, is intended to generate a comment on the thread.
Beto only got a 6. He worked until he was exhausted.
It also gives Ndiaye an 8.5 while McNeil only gets an 8. I thought both were equally effective, and even thought McNeil was slightly better. Ndiaye could have broken through with McNeil on his right and Beto on his left, but he chose to shoot instead.
The funny thing at the end is that George got a six. Why? Is it because it was added to provide fresh legs? Certainly that was true of all submarines.
