Peters’ allies claim she was assaulted in prison and is being punished for the altercation. Prison officials said no one was injured and Peters was transported.
PUEBLO, Colo. — Video obtained by 9NEWS shows a prison altercation involving Tina Peters, a central figure in President Trump’s feud with the state of Colorado.
The Colorado Department of Corrections told 9NEWS that Peters and the other inmates were not injured and that Peters was transferred to another living area at La Vista Correctional Facility pending an investigation as a “standard safety and security procedure.”
Colorado and Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis have so far resisted tremendous pressure to release Peters, who is serving a nine-year sentence for a plot to compromise Colorado’s election system in an effort to substantiate President Trump’s claims of election fraud.
A social media account posting updates from Peters and her legal team claimed that Peters was assaulted by another inmate on Sunday night. Peters’ supporters said he was then placed in solitary confinement and “told that he would be charged with felonious assault for defending himself.”
“Tina was entering a maintenance closet to fill the water system when an inmate approached her in the closet and, in a fit of anger, began punching her. Tina raised her hand and shoved the inmate,” Peters said in a social media post, adding that Peters suffered “minor injuries.”
“This incident is clearly a targeted attack on Peters,” the social media post said. “Perhaps this is being used as an opportunity to isolate and harass Tina Peters.”
The post directed supporters to a website soliciting donations to Peters’ legal fund.
Surveillance video obtained by 9NEWS shows Peters pushing a cart into the doorway. Another female inmate approaches and is partially obscured from view for approximately one second.
Peters then came out of the doorway and appeared to put his hands on the other inmate’s neck and shoulders, pushing her backwards across the room. Within seconds, they parted ways and Peters returned to his cart before leaving the room.
Check out the surveillance footage below.
The Colorado Department of Corrections pushed back on Peters’ team’s claims that she was injured and punished after the altercation.
“The inmate is not in solitary confinement, but was moved to another housing unit following the incident,” the DOC said in a written statement. “La Vista Correctional Facility does not use solitary confinement.”
“Conducting an investigation and relocating one or more of the inmates involved to another housing area is standard safety and security procedure for the inmates involved in the incident pending the outcome of the investigation,” the DOC statement said.
Before 9NEWS released the surveillance video, Peters’ supporters and fellow election fraud conspiracy theorists came to her defense.
“This is outrageous!” Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert posted on X. “Tina Peters is a Gold Star mother and is being held as a political prisoner for exposing election fraud.”
Peters found no election fraud.
Boebert’s post instructed Polis to “commutate her sentence now, not later. Get her out of this hell hole.”
Kari Lake, who heads the Trump administration’s Global Media Agency, also echoed Peters’ claims after refusing to acknowledge defeat in the Arizona election.
“Tina Peters needs help,” Lake wrote on X. “Please release Tina!!”
MAGA podcaster and 2026 Republican gubernatorial candidate Joe Ortman posted on X that Peters was “being tortured for refusing to remain silent.”
Ortman is called Hanging a prominent Colorado Democrat involved in the Peters case, calling Governor Polis, Attorney General Phil Weiser, and Secretary of State Jenna Griswold a “synagogue of Satanic Jews.”
Peters’ lawyer, Peter Ticktin, appeared on MAGA strategist Steve Bannon’s War Room show on Monday to discuss the prison altercation.
“This is really concerning,” Ticktin said.
Despite unsuccessful attempts to silence the music, the country song American Heart appeared to be playing on the computer during the interview, and Ticktin’s comments were at times incoherent and inaudible.
Mr. Ticktin called Attorney General Weiser and Secretary of State Griswold “criminals.”
“True criminals say keep non-criminals in prison,” Tiktin said as the song builds up to the chorus.
The prison incident is not the first violent altercation involving Peters to be caught on tape. In 2022, Peters was seen struggling with Grand Junction police at a bagel shop as they tried to execute a warrant on an iPad.
Video shows Peters attempting to kick the officer. Court documents say Peters’ kick made contact with the officer’s Taser and magazine pouch.
According to court documents, the officers told Peters, “Don’t kick me! You understand!” I said, “Relax,” and she yelled, “No!”
