Some people may have doubts about this shocking move. eagles” decision, offensive line coach and run game coordinator Jeff Stoutland is leaving the organization. The legendary offensive line coach confirmed the news on his social media a while ago.
Stoutland spent 13 years with the organization, turning the Eagles’ offensive line into one of the best in the NFL year after year. The move comes after reports that Stoutland was stripped of his running game coordinator duties this season as Philadelphia struggled to run the football in front of an overlapping defense. According to SumerSports, Barkley, who had 2,005 rushing yards during the regular season, was hit or tackled 84 times behind the line of scrimmage and had 41 negative runs last season.
Stoutland has been the run game coordinator since 2018, after Philadelphia won its first Super Bowl. Stoutland’s approach to the running game included a combination of zone and gap schemes that weren’t difficult to decipher and relied on an offensive line dominating up front.
That could all change under first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Mannion will likely take cues from the Kyle Shanahan/Sean McVay/Matt LaFleur offensive style, focusing on a “wide zone” scheme designed to create mismatches through motion, misdirection, and personnel.
