Meanwhile, Hughes and the U.S. team could face a Canadian team led by Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby this weekend in the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Canada defeated the Czech Republic 4-3 in overtime. The United States and Sweden were tied 0-0 after the first period on Wednesday.

The game between USA and Sweden is being broadcast live on NBC. The winners will advance to the semi-final round set for later this week.
