“Evangelion” returns with a new anime

The legendary series returns for its 30th anniversary with an unexpected creative team.

Production on a new anime series in the “Evangelion” universe has officially begun. The project was announced during the final program of the festival celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary on February 23rd.

The announced creative team is particularly interesting. The script and composition for the series is handled by Yoko Taro, the creator of “NieR” and “Drakengal” and known for his unconventional storytelling.

Directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toru Yatabe. Mr. Tsurumaki is one of the main authors of the series, having worked on “The End of Evangelion,” “Evangelion 1.0,” “2.0,” “3.0+1.0,” and “Death and Rebirth.” His return means the project will be closely tied to the original team’s creative legacy. Yatabe previously participated in the production of “Chainsaw Man” and was in charge of the animation.

The music will be written by Keiichi Okabe, a composer famous for soundtracks such as “NieR”, “NieR:Automata”, and the “Tekken” series. Studio Color and CloverWorks, who worked on Evangelion Rebuild, are in charge of production. The latter is known for “Spy x Family”, the anime adaptation of Persona 5, “Darling in the Franxx”, and “Fate/Grand Order -Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia-”.

Details such as the plot, format, and release date have not yet been revealed. There isn’t even an approximate premiere window, let alone a trailer.
