Celtic hero Joe Hart gains attention for surprise role after success as critic

Former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart made a surprise appearance as coach despite starting his successful career as a pundit. The 38-year-old retired 18 months ago, but Celtic were one of the subplots of that season, with Hart’s departure leading to a third consecutive league title.

Hart was pictured wearing the gloves again, but it was not the former Man City stopper’s return. Super Joe featured in his former club Shrewsbury Town’s away game against Salford City as a substitute.

Hart provided one-off support as Shrewsbury aim to be appointed permanently as goalkeeping coach.

The gig doesn’t interfere with Hart’s media career, as he’s quickly becoming one of the best pundits, offering insight from a top-level former pro without the fuss we’re used to.

Hart did extremely well for Celtic both on and off the pitch. The farewell he deserved was a testament to not only a great player but also a great human being. The decorated English international welcomed Celtic and was fully accepted by the club, becoming a key part of the team under Ange Postecoglou and then Brendan Rodgers.

Hart called time on his career knowing he was slowing down, but given his apparent form, he could have continued playing much longer.
