Family pays tribute to ‘beautiful soul’Published at 10:21 GMT
Lilia’s parents said their daughter had a “beautiful soul with a strong character.”
Her mother, Lina Savicke, said her family had placed a statue of Lilia in their home that “captured Lilia’s final moments playing with a hula hoop.”
“Tears and pain cannot wash away everything we feel,” she said.
“It’s very painful to go through something where someone didn’t really think about the consequences.”
Lina said a memorial bench and mosaic in Lilia’s memory have been installed in Boston.
“Sometimes scary thoughts can overwhelm your mind,” Lina says.
“Yet, as a family, we stand strong and support each other through all the hardships and all the hurt.
“I’m just tired of crying. I’m always overthinking. My child isn’t coming back. Why her? Why us?”
“These questions remain unanswered.”
Lilia’s stepfather, Aurelijus Savikas, said that when he dropped her off outside her mother’s store on the day of the murder, her mother hugged her and said, “Thank you for your hard work.”
“That hug and kiss was our last moment together,” he said.
“I have attended many funerals, but nothing prepared me for the loss of a child.
“There are no words to describe the pain. It left a scar on our hearts that will never fully heal.”
He added, “Some feelings fade with time, but memories remain and love never fades.”
“She was a beautiful soul with a strong personality and a strong personality.
“Lilia, you will always live in our hearts. You are loved forever.”
