Manager Arne Slott admitted in a press conference that he believes set-pieces are the “new reality of the Premier League” and that the reliance on set-pieces means that most Premier League matches are no longer fun to watch.

From the start of the season until December 31, his side were bottom of the table in terms of goals scored from set pieces (excluding penalties), but since the start of the year no team has scored as many goals from set pieces as Liverpool.

“Do I like it? My football heart doesn’t like it,” Slott said.

“When I think about football, I think of the Barcelona team from 10-15 years ago. Now they are not as fun to watch, but they are always competitive.

The Dutch player may not like it, but it is clear that the team has no choice but to accept it. And accept it, they do.

It is also encouraging for Liverpool that manager Slott hopes Florian Wirths will be back next week. Given last week’s uncertainty, there was some doubt that he would be out for even longer, but Wirtz will likely return at some point next week, perhaps against Galatasaray or Tottenham.

Remember, we’ll bring you all the Liverpool manager’s quotes later.
