West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has called on referees to clamp down on free-kicks.

The Portuguese coach states that the laws on throw-ins no longer apply and that they are sometimes taken within the touchline and with the foot raised.

His comments come on the eve of West Ham’s FA Cup match against Brentford, who have one of the Premier League’s most effective long-range takers in Michael Kayode in their ranks.

Nuno said: “If you remember and you’ve been in football long enough to remember, when a throw-in was poorly executed, the referee would come up and say ‘look’. “Now we see throw-ins sometimes on the pitch, sometimes with the foot raised.

“You know the law of the throw-in, both feet (on the ground). It’s not happening. They’re not recognizing that part of the game. So that’s my concern with the referees.”

Nuno insists the FA Cup is not an unwanted distraction despite West Ham’s relegation concerns.

“We love the FA Cup and that’s what we’re focusing on now,” he added. “It’s really important and we’re looking forward to playing at home against a tough opponent. We want to try to get through.”
