The Switch 2 has been the subject of much debate since its release last year, with many speculating that the current economic climate will necessitate a price increase for Nintendo’s new console.

In a new interview with Kyoto ShimbunNintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has remained silent on the possibility of product price increases, saying, “I can’t comment on hypotheses.” That seems like a very understandable statement. Mr. Furukawa will not want to cause panic by hinting that prices may actually rise.

It’s worth noting that Kyoto Shimbun’s articles are locked behind a paid subscription model. Nintendo patent watch We highlighted several key points from the interview. In addition to Furukawa’s comments about price increases, he also said that current memory prices (which are rising thanks to the huge demand needed for AI chips) are “not going to have an immediate impact.” [Nintendo’s] “financial performance,” but he still plans to monitor the situation closely.

In a bit of lighter news, Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo is working on both established series and completely new content, which probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. He also reaffirmed Nintendo’s desire to expand its efforts in the film field, while noting that the possibility of expanding into anime has not been completely ruled out.

Getting any kind of comment from Nintendo is like drawing blood from a stone, so I’m not surprised to see such a vague answer from Furukawa. Anyway, at least a bit I will explain the situation heading into the new year.
