The NBA on Saturday suspended Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder for three games for confronting and attempting to attack Luka Doncic after the Kings’ loss to the Lakers on Dec. 28 in Los Angeles.
Doncic and Schroder got into altercations at various points in the game, which the Kings lost 125-101. During a timeout, Doncic mocked Schroder, saying, “You should have signed that contract,” referring to the four-year, $82 million extension that Schroder turned down from the Lakers several years ago.
Things seemed to calm down after the game. But Schroder left the visitors’ locker room at Crypto.com Arena to find Doncic, and the tantrum flared up again in the tunnel across from the home bench.
Forty minutes after the buzzer sounded, Schroder went after Doncic, calling him “terrible” on the court and telling him he couldn’t pretend like nothing was wrong off the court. The NBA concluded that Schroder attempted to attack Doncic.
Lakers center Deandre Ayton tried to pull Schroder out of the faceoff, but a startled Doncic attempted to leave as security intervened.
Schroder was eventually escorted to the team bus while Kings coach Doug Christie and several teammates sought answers about the sudden drama.
Doncic and his father, Sasha, eventually walked to a nearby car and left as Schroder and his Kings teammates prepared to leave on the team bus.
The Lakers and Kings meet again on Monday night in Sacramento. Schroder will be suspended for this game.
