Rafinha: How Hansi Flick changed the form of Barcelona’s forwards

Carlos, a Barcelona supporter, believes the change is more than tactical. “Raphinha has much better self-esteem now,” he explains.

“The club he arrived at was in internal turmoil and had no clear role models. He was given little confidence, little guidance and the club even considered selling him. Flick gave him a chance and he now understands his role and responsibilities on the pitch more clearly.”

“In addition to his great contributions on the field, he is also someone who protects his teammates. He has great instincts and intelligence on the field and still has room to grow.”

When asked what he thought had changed, fan Mikel Taverna said: “In one word: confidence and maturity.”

“I think he now plays less as a pure winger and more of an inside-forward position. He makes smarter runs, presses better, links up better with the midfielders. Maybe he’s switched from ‘supercharged’ to ‘we need him in every game’.”

Fellow supporter Diego Sanchez said: “His off-the-ball movement is just gold for a team with players like Lamine Yamal and Pedri. His attitude and leadership have turned him into a true captain.”

“Thanks to Hansi Flick, Rafinha went from a player who could be forgotten by Barça fans to a player who could go down in the club’s history as one of the great Brazilian players.”
