It may be hard to believe, but sonic the hedgehog will be celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2026, and Sega clearly has something planned as they released a nostalgic trailer celebrating the life and times of Blue Blur.

The trailer highlights Sonic’s range from his pixel-perfect start on the Mega Drive to the series’ storied history. sonic the hedgehoginto the blockbuster films of Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy.

He did everything imaginable — Lego Sonic, the animated series. sonic x, minecraftand apparently has a ton of video games of his own. So 2026 should be a big year for Sega and Sonic.

“For more than 30 years, Sonic has raced through generations and inspired fans with his unparalleled speed, unstoppable energy and fearless spirit,” Sega said. A new 35th anniversary website has been established.. “Now is the time to honor his incredible journey and celebrate the Blue Blur’s countless adventures.”

Additionally, Marcella Churchill, vice president of brand marketing for SEGA/Atlas, said in a press release, “This milestone not only reflects our company’s past, but also looks to the future as we continue to innovate and grow.”

SEGA will reveal partnerships, collectibles, fan experiences, and more throughout the year. We’re hopeful that game announcements may also be made there.

June 21, 2026 marks the official date of Sonic’s 35th anniversary, but we’re sure to hear a lot about Sega’s iconic character over the next few months.
