The new KTM 990 Duke R has been revealed. It is likely to be released in NZ soon.

  • Adopts the same 947cc engine with improved output
  • Hardware updated for improved performance
  • Coming soon to New Zealand and Australia

KTM has officially unveiled the performance-focused 990 Duke R to the global market following its debut at the 2024 EICMA show. Sitting above the standard 990 Duke, the R variant brings sharper performance, upgraded components and a more focused riding setup.

At the heart of the 990 Duke R is the same 947cc, DOHC, parallel-twin engine as the standard model. However, in the R, KTM has increased the output to 127bhp, making around 6hp more than the base version. Maximum torque remains unchanged at 103Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed gearbox paired with a standard two-way quickshifter.

One of the most notable upgrades is a new 8.8-inch TFT touchscreen display that replaces the smaller screen used in the standard 990 Duke. The larger unit supports offline navigation and brings the Duke R closer to KTM’s flagship model in terms of technology.

Chassis and suspension hardware has also been revised. The 990 Duke R features fully adjustable WP Apex suspension with rear linkage, offering a wider tuning range and improved feedback. KTM has also made subtle but meaningful geometry changes, including increasing the seat height to 840mm, increasing ground clearance to 210mm and slightly lengthening the wheelbase, all aimed at sharper handling and high-speed stability.

The 990 Duke R is sold as a single-seater bike, with pillion equipment available as an option. KTM has confirmed that the model will soon arrive at dealers in Europe, with other markets expected to follow, including New Zealand.
