Second lady Usha Vance announces pregnancy with fourth child

Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President J.D. Vance are expecting a baby this summer, the couple announced Tuesday.

In a joint statement posted on social media, they said: “We are so happy to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. Usha and the baby are doing well and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July.”

The Vance family has three children, Ewan, Vivec, and Mirabel, who often accompany them on trips around the country and around the world.

Although this is the first time a sitting second lady has given birth while in office, it is not unprecedented for a first lady.

She assembled a small staff team and transitioned the children to life at the Naval Observatory, acclimating them to their roles. She used children’s literacy as a platform and launched the Summer Reading Challenge last year.

The couple will lead the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, next month.
