macOS Tahoe Privacy and security features are focused on screening for unwanted exposure, limiting tracking, and keeping more decision-making on your device. Most updates run silently in the background and require little to no setup.
Built-in filtering for calls and messages
Apple is social engineering Attempt. The native Phone, Messages, and FaceTime apps include system-level screening and unknown contact controls. You can screen calls from unknown numbers before your Mac rings, prompting the caller to enter their name and reason. Screened calls are placed in a separate list.
In Messages, spam detection on your device filters out unwanted text and categorizes it into categories such as promotions and transactions. Users can opt in to sorting rules and choose which notifications they receive. Approved contacts will be able to communicate seamlessly via phone, FaceTime, and Messages.
Safari expands anti-tracking defenses
Safari extends advanced fingerprint protection to every browsing session. This feature masks device and browser attributes commonly used to create persistent user profiles.

Previously limited to private browsing, this protection is now applied by default and reduces the data available to trackers during everyday use. This change limits passive data leakage without requiring user training.
Safer communication for children
Parents can approve new contacts for their children directly in Messages. When your child attempts to send a message to the new number, a request for approval will be sent. You can also detect and blur nudity in shared albums and live FaceTime calls in photos. All checks are done on your device, so sensitive images remain private.
The app can receive an age range instead of a date of birth, so kids can access age-appropriate content without having to share their exact personal information.
Improved app information
The App Store provides more detailed age ratings and a more transparent description of what an app contains. The updated age rating system adds 13+, 16+, and 18+ to the existing 4+ and 9+ categories. Age ratings are assigned by country or region and may vary to reflect local suitability standards. Parents can allow exceptions for specific apps if needed, making it easier to decide what to install and what to avoid.
