Stephen Curry injury news puts Warriors in tough position without Butler

The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of losing their third straight game on Sunday. Steph Curry is unsure of his status as of Sunday afternoon heading into Sunday night’s matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Golden State listed the star guard as questionable due to right knee soreness. This is just another ailment to worry about for the Warriors, who were hit with major injury news earlier this week.

Almost a week ago, when the Warriors played against the Miami Heat, they watched Jimmy Butler go down with an apparent knee injury. The veteran was in significant pain and needed help returning to the Warriors’ locker room.

After the game, the Warriors confirmed Butler would need an MRI. The next day, before Warriors fans even woke up, the team learned Butler had torn his ACL. His first full season with the Warriors ended before the All-Star break.

Curry and the Warriors have struggled since losing Butler. Heading into Sunday’s game, they are coming off a two-game losing streak. The first loss was against the Toronto Raptors. Curry scored 16 points on 6-16 shooting from the field. His struggles on the field didn’t help the Warriors. The Raptors dominated, 145-27.

In the next game, the Warriors faced the undermanned Dallas Mavericks. In 34 minutes, Curry finished with 38 points on 14-27 from the field, scoring nearly 40 points. The Mavs defeated the Warriors 123-115.

Sunday’s action will be the start of a two-game stretch. Both games will be against the Timberwolves. It’s unclear whether Curry will agree to play at least one, if not both, because of his knee issues.

According to NBC Sports’ Dalton JohnsonThe Warriors upgraded De’Anthony Melton and Al Horford, who were initially questionable. The report suggests both players are “likely” to be ruled out of Monday’s game.

This should create even more curiosity about Curry’s status on both nights. He wants to play every game, but the Warriors can’t give Curry too much of a setback, especially as the team deals with Butler’s absence. He will become too important in the future.
