Serious health problems can complicate situations in our daily life.
this young woman Due to a chronic health condition, I sleep a lot.
However, her roommate keeps making negative comments about it, which makes her feel bad.
Let’s take a look!
I (18F) live in a dorm with another person. We are both students.
There are classes 5 days a week.
Since the beginning of the semester, my roommate has been commenting on my sleeping habits.
This made sense at first. I tend to sleep for more than 15 hours straight. I go to bed at a certain time.
This includes the daytime and afternoon to night hours.
This young woman suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome.
I have chronic fatigue syndrome.
On top of that, I have a very hectic schedule.
So, if I get a chance, I will go back to the dormitory and rest.
Coping with my condition was difficult. I have been taking medication ever since my symptoms started.
I am currently taking more than 3 different medications to control my sleep patterns.
Her roommates always commented on how she always slept.
The problem is that she comes in whenever I’m in bed.
She’ll ask why I’m “always asleep” and why I’m “never awake.”
This is frustrating because it is not constructive.
I think it’s probably understandable if these comments lead to discussion.
The discussion will be about how my sleep affects her life in some way.
I would understand if she wanted me to be more attentive.
She thinks the comment is unfair.
But she’s probably home half the time.
I take on most of the household chores while she’s away.
She hardly even sees me during weekdays. This is why I think these comments are unfair.
I also never asked her to be quiet while I slept.
I have never asked her to change her lifestyle in any way.
She believes that if your roommate has a problem, you should discuss it properly.
You can’t control when you fall asleep.
So I don’t expect everyone to adjust their lives to suit my condition.
She is free to be as loud as she wants.
If she felt she couldn’t do it, she didn’t tell me.
As far as I know, my sleep has no effect on her.
She’s not here most of the time. I am also away from home frequently.
She is upset by the comments but can’t do anything about her condition.
This is a sensitive issue for me.
Even if she doesn’t say that, I can’t help but feel lazy and wasted.
Even if it’s something I can’t control.
Thanks to the medication, I feel a little better, so I am able to function energetically.
But this was a lifelong problem. It seems like I can’t just go home to rest.
Ita?
