One in 300 young people has an undiagnosed heart condition that can cause sudden cardiac arrest. of Kyle J. Taylor Foundation (KJTF)beside UC Davis Health and Project ADAM Sacramentois sponsored by Free Youth Heart Screening Event Helps identify people at risk.

The free screening will be held on Sunday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rio Americano High School, 4540 American River Dr., Sacramento. The screening target audience is from 12 to 25 years old.
The screening time is approximately 40 minutes. This includes a cardiac risk assessment, electrocardiogram (EKG), and physician review. Echocardiography will also be performed upon the recommendation of the on-site physician.
An EKG is a simple, painless test that records the electrical activity of the heart using a small adhesive electrode patch placed on the skin of the chest. EKGs and echocardiograms can detect structural and electrical problems in the heart associated with sudden cardiac arrest in young people.
The purpose of screening is to prevent the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in children and young people, which can occur without warning during sporting events. Annual physicals and pre-sport physicals required for participation in sports can miss approximately 85-90% of problems that can cause sudden cardiac arrest in adolescents.
