Open-world fantasy game Crimson Desert goes gold

Crimson Desert has been making big waves ever since. Revealed at the end of 2019in 2025, it became even more popular after several previews and new trailers. As the March 19th release date approached, many were worried that there would be a delay. After all, the game had just gone gold, so there was no need to worry.

developer and publisher Pearl Abyss; shared the news January 21st doubles the previously announced release date for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. It also included a short message from the studio expressing “high expectations” following the game’s appearances at “major global gaming events” such as The Game Awards, GDC, and last summer’s Gamescom. “We sincerely thank our fans around the world for joining us on this meaningful journey…Your support has enabled us to reach this important milestone. We look forward to welcoming you to the continent of Pywell on March 19th.”

Set on the fantasy continent of Pywel, Crimson Desert was originally conceived as a prequel to Pearly Abyss’ long-running Black Desert, but later became a single-player behemoth. ”2x biggerAccording to the developer, “In terms of raw map size, it’s on par with Skyrim. It’s a double-edged sword in an era of open-world games that often feel a little too scattered, but it looks lush and lush, so we’re hoping it will manage to hold your attention for the first few hours.”

Players take control of Cliff, a member of the Greymanes as he attempts to reunite with his friends after a “devastating ambush.” His journey is said to be filled with alliances, danger, mortal enemies, and “mysterious forces.” The gameplay we’ve seen so far shows that Crimson Desert takes cues from modern classics like Skyrim, Tears of the Kingdom, The Witcher 3, and Dragon’s Dogma, among others. However, to stand out, you need to have plenty of unique game design (and story) ideas.
