After phenomenal box office collection in theaters and earning Rs 100 crore at the box office, ‘Durandal’ was finally released digitally on January 30. The movie quietly debuted at midnight, and fans rushed to Netflix to rewatch the movie. Even those who did not have the opportunity to watch the movie in theaters tuned in to watch the Hindi movie dubbed in Tamil and Telugu. But everyone who went to see the movie wasn’t too happy about one major difference. Fans pointed out that the film, which was given an ‘A’ rating, was actually censored for its OTT debut. ,‘Durandal’ gets censored on OTTAs soon as the film began streaming, social media was flooded with complaints and sharp criticism from viewers, with fans accusing the streaming platform of muting dialogue, censoring abusive language, and trimming a total of 10 minutes of the film. Fans of Aditya Dhar’s film were outraged by the editing, saying they were expecting an uncensored version after its theatrical release. ‘Dhurandhar’ will be released with reduced runtime
The backlash wasn’t just limited to the muted swear words and other edited scenes, with many even pointing out that the film’s running time was significantly shorter. Viewers claimed that the OTT version of the film had nearly 10 minutes cut out. Dhurandal reportedly ran for about 3 hours and 34 minutes in theaters, but the digital version runs for about 3 hours and 25 minutes. “The cut version, hmmm, about 10 minutes have been deleted!” one user claimed, prompting others to ask the platform to “release the uncut version.””The OTT debut of ‘Dhulandar’ comes eight weeks after the film hits theaters on December 5. Following the digital release, the makers are now gearing up for the release of ‘Dhulandar Part 2’ which is scheduled to release on March 19th.
