Friday Markets | The market ended its three-day winning streak. Sensex fell 297 points, Nifty underperformed Budget by 25,350 points.
Amid cautious investor sentiment ahead of the Union Budget scheduled for Sunday, February 1, the benchmark index ended its three-day winning streak with the Nifty dipping below 25,250 during the day, with bears returning to Dalal Street.
At the close, the Sensex fell 296.59 points or 0.36 per cent to 82,269.78 and the Nifty fell 98.25 points or 0.39 per cent to 25,320.65.
Broad indexes ended mixed, with the Nifty midcap index down 0.2%, while the smallcap index rose 0.3%.
For the week, the BSE Sensex index and Nifty 50 index rose 1% each.
On the Nifty, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Coal India, ONGC and ICICI Bank were losers, while gainers were Tata Consumer, Apollo Hospitals, Nestle, M&M and ITC.
By sector, the metals index fell 5%, oil and gas, banking, IT and energy fell 0.5-1%, while pharmaceuticals, media, consumer durables and fast-moving consumer goods rose 0.7-1.8%.
