Daisuke Sato won the 2026 Japanese Student Half Championship

◇29th Japan Student Half Marathon Championship (February 1st/Kagawa/Marugame)

The 29th Japan Student Half Marathon Championship was held, and Daisuke Sato (2nd year student at Chuo University) won the race with a time of 10 minutes and 40 seconds, tied for seventh place in Japanese student history.

The next event was held in conjunction with the Kagawa International Half Marathon. The race was led by foreign competitors competing in the Marugame Half, setting a high pace with the first 5km clocking in at 13 minutes and 59 seconds, under 14 minutes. The 10km was an even faster split at 27 minutes 51 seconds.

Tsunetoru Nonaka (3rd year student at Kokugakuin University) was the only one in the leading group to eat, but he gradually retreated from the 12km mark. Meanwhile, Sato, who had maintained a steady pace of 14 minutes 02 seconds for 5km and 28 minutes 04 seconds for 10km, caught up with him after 15km.

After 20km before turning around and taking over the lead, he covered the remaining 1.0975km in 3 minutes 23 seconds and finished in first place.

Yu Yamamoto (Junior University 2nd year) was second with a 6-second difference, Takuma Ohama (Daito University 2nd year) was third with a time of 1 hour 0 minutes 48 seconds, and the second-year students were determined to take the top spot, while Nonaka was 4th place with a time of 1 hour 0 minutes 51 seconds.

Below, 5th place went to Hayao Kawasaki (Tsukuba University 3rd year), 6th place went to Itsuki Takaishi (Kokugakuin University 1st year), 7th place went to Munakata Ichiraku (Daito University 3rd year), and 8th place went to Yamaguchi Shota (Nihon University 3rd year).
