KOLKATA: A 32-year-old woman collapsed in the queue for the SIR hearing at the Deganga block office in North 24 Parganas on Monday. Selina Bibi was taken to Deganga Biswanathpur Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Doctors say she suffered a heart attack. The family claimed that after Selina and her husband Siddique Ali received the SIR hearing notice, Selina was under severe mental stress due to logical inconsistencies in the document.
“Before the hearing, Serina became very anxious as she felt unable to properly answer some of the officials’ questions. While waiting in line, she kept saying that she would be sent to prison and was sweating profusely. Despite our efforts to reassure her, she suffered a heart attack and suddenly collapsed,” a relative said.Later that day, TMC seniors visited Serena’s family. “Another life has been lost due to harassment in the name of SIR hearings. Many people are living in fear and some are fighting for their lives in hospitals. These unethical acts must stop immediately,” Neta said.
