Shab-e-Barat 2026: Date, time, history and significance of the 15th night of Shaban

Shab-e-Barat is observed on the night of the 15th day of Shaban, one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar, which falls in the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Known as the “Night of Forgiveness,” this day is a time when people spend the night in prayer, begging God for blessings, forgiveness, and mercy, and pondering spiritually. According to the Hijri calendar, Shab-e-Barat is expected to start from the evening of February 3, 2026 until February 4, 2026.

History of Shab-e-Barat:

It is believed that on this auspicious night, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) left for Mecca. Another famous story says that his wife, Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa, once noticed his disappearance and went looking for him. Later, she found him praying for the forgiveness of the deceased in a cemetery in Medina.

Additionally, many people visit the graves of their loved ones and offer prayers on their behalf. Giving food, clothing, and cash to the less fortunate is one of the most important rituals performed on this holy day.To seek forgiveness from God Almighty and wish for the well-being of their loved ones, people engage in various religious and spiritual practices such as going to mosques, praying, meditating all night, reciting the Quran, and reciting dua.
