The lead singer of 3 Doors Down was 47 years old.

Brad Arnold, lead singer and founding member of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday after a battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.

Arnold’s attorney said he passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his wife and family.

The original drummer and vocalist for 3 Doors Down, Arnold helped form the band in 1996 in Escatopa, Mississippi. He wrote and produced the 2000 hit “Kryptonite,” one of the group’s most enduring songs. Arnold famously wrote the lyrics to this song when he was only 15 years old.

In May 2025, Arnold revealed in a social media video that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer.

“Hey everyone, this is Brad from Three Doors Down. Have a great day today,” he said in the video. “I have some not-so-good news today. So, I’ve been feeling ill for a few weeks now, and I went to the hospital and got tested and was diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had actually spread to my lungs. It’s stage 4, and things aren’t looking too good.”

“But you know what? We serve a great God, and He can overcome anything. That’s why I have no fear. Truly, I’m not afraid at all. But I’m going to have to cancel my tour this summer because of it. And I’m sorry. And I hope you’ll lift me up in prayer every chance you get. And I think it’s time to go listen to a little bit of ‘It’s Not My Time,’ don’t you?”

Arnold is survived by his wife, Jennifer;
