Ghislaine Maxwell to appear at US Congress hearing on EpsteinPublished at 14:12 GMT
Ghislaine Maxwell will be questioned under oath before a parliamentary committee investigating the US federal government’s handling of the Epstein file.
The 64-year-old will be questioned behind closed doors and her court appearance will be via video link rather than in person.
Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for recruiting and trafficking teenage girls for sexual abuse by Epstein.
Ms Maxwell’s lawyer told the BBC on Sunday that Ms Maxwell would be “standing for a fifth trial”, meaning she would not have to give evidence that could be self-incriminating.
Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna said Maxwell will read “a prepared statement at the beginning of the deposition.”
Her appearance before the committee comes less than two weeks after the Department of Justice (DOJ) released more than 3 million documents in its latest release of the Epstein files. This further exposed Epstein’s relationships with powerful people around the world.
Mr. Epstein’s survivors appeared in ads on U.S. television Sunday calling for the release of more files related to Mr. Epstein. The Justice Department was required by law to release all files in December last year. However, not all are published and many are redacted.
Being on file does not imply any wrongdoing.
