Winter storm impacts Nova Scotia, causing some schools to close

A snowfall warning has been issued for much of Nova Scotia ahead of a storm expected to bring heavy snow to the province.

Environment Canada stated: Low pressure will track south of the state on Wednesdaybringing snow to much of the province, including the Halifax area.

“Snow will begin in western Nova Scotia Wednesday morning and move eastward across the province during the day, reaching Cape Breton by Wednesday evening,” the statement reads.

National forecasters said 15 to 20 centimeters of snow could fall in most parts of the state.

Some schools across the state were also closed due to the expected storm, with the Tri-County, Annapolis Valley and South Shore Regional Education Centers canceling classes for the day.

CCRCE schools in East Hants, Advocate and Parrsboro schools, and Annapolis Valley schools will also be closed due to today’s weather.

According to Environment Canada, the snow could make roads and sidewalks impassable, which could significantly impact rush hour traffic.

The agency also warned that local utility services could be shut down.
