The school where Chan worked is in the London borough of Barnet, and local council leader Barry Rawlings has reacted to the ruling.
He said: “No amount of prison time can undo the harm done to the victims and their families, but I hope today’s sentence brings some comfort.
“As a result of this horrific incident, the Barnet Child Protection Partnership is carrying out a safeguarding audit of Barnet’s early years providers. This includes the use and monitoring of CCTV in these settings.”
“We are also actively participating in the review of Lanark safeguarding work commissioned by the Camden Child Protection Partnership to consider what further lessons can be learned.
“Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of the affected children, young people and families in Barnet and we will continue to provide support to them.
“Council is working with partners, including the NPSCC, to provide practical, emotional and safety support to affected families. We encourage anyone affected to reach out and know that support is here.”
