Gboard releases “Auto-switch after apostrophe” shortcut

While we wait for a broader redesign, Gboard for Android is getting a big quality of life improvement with the “Auto-toggle after apostrophe” shortcut.

Updated 2/14: “Auto-switch after apostrophe” was widely rolled out to stable users (version 16.7) over the past week. Enabled by default.


Original 1/22: Gboard can now “automatically return to the character keyboard after an apostrophe”. Previously, you had to press the spacebar or use the “?123” key in the bottom left corner.

This allows you to quickly complete possessive nouns and contractions. A prompt will appear once this is deployed to your device.[設定]>[環境設定]>[ショートカット]There is an option to disable it from.

“Auto-switch after apostrophe” is currently confirmed in the beta channel (version 16.6). It has not yet been widely deployed to testers.

Speaking of settings, Gboard has published a redesign of Material 3 Expressive on its stable channel as of version 16.5. This is a simple modernization that utilizes containers to group related menus on the main list. Individual pages have also been updated.
