U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gol spent a late night in Bangalore with Bharatiya Janata Party Congressman Tejasvi Surya, combining street food and strategic conversation to discuss the growing partnership between India and the United States.
Sharing photos and videos on X, Surya said she welcomed the ambassador to the Karnataka capital and entertained him over masala dosa and strong filter coffee in Indiranagar.
He said the discussions focused on trade, technology and innovation, especially in the context of the recently finalized interim trade agreement between the two countries.
Surya said in the post that the two countries “had a fascinating conversation about the growing India-US partnership in trade, technology and innovation, especially after the Interim Trade Agreement,” and added that he introduced the ambassador to the ‘Namma Auto’ ride and added, “It was truly a memorable ride.”
“India’s most vibrant city”
A video shared by the Bharatiya Janata Party MP shows the two traveling through the streets of the city in an autorickshaw, with Gore at one point recording the road on his mobile phone.
In the video, Surya welcomes the ambassador to what he describes as “India’s best city” and “India’s most happening city” and thanks the ambassador for their role in strengthening the relationship between India and the United States. Mr Golu received a warm welcome and described Mr Surya as “the most wonderful host” on his first visit to Bangalore.
Focus on trade and technology
Surya later said Ambassador Golu brings “extraordinary energy and dynamism to diplomacy” and truly believes in the “limitless potential” of India-US relations. He added that the late night car ride was a “true Bengaluru experience” and called the city “the crown jewel of the India-US partnership”.
In his post, Gore said he had just arrived in Bengaluru, praised the city’s energy as unparalleled, from startups to street food, and thanked Surya for embracing him.
The visit comes shortly after Ambassador Goll assumed office in India and New Delhi and Washington finalized the framework for a long-pending interim trade agreement. Under this agreement, reciprocal tariffs were reduced to 18%. US President Donald Trump also lifted the 25% tariff imposed on India on oil imports from Russia.
