Microsoft just Windows 11 release preview build This is a preview of the many new features coming to the OS.
Redmond’s team has been doing this regularly for several months, but this time the company is reportedly following suit. Reverse packing AI into Windows 11.
The name of the game here is optimization and improving quality of life when using Windows. These new features make me cautiously optimistic that we’re on the right track.
The taskbar is now even more convenient
First, we’ve added the option to run a network speed test directly from the taskbar. This is useful for checking network performance and identifying problems if pages aren’t loading.
I also welcome the improvement of not moving multiple windows of the same app into the overflow area, but only using the available space on the bar itself.
Reduce PC “wake-up” time
Microsoft has made several performance improvements and optimized the way Windows resumes from “sleep” mode. If you’ve ever felt like your laptop takes a long time to start up if you leave a lot of apps open before closing the lid, this update specifically targets that.
Once you boot it up, you can expect your system (be it a notebook or desktop) to run snappier. This should bring some performance parity between the faster Snapdragon X Elite systems and those from Intel and AMD.
camera control
Tired of AI trying to see your face on your webcam? Now you have manual control. You can now control pan and tilt for supported cameras within the Bluetooth & Devices settings.
This is because AI framing is often easy to fool, and many people may not want dramatic zooms that they can’t control.
That’s not all…
There are other notable updates planned, all of which seem to signal Microsoft’s shift away from cramming AI into Windows 11. Not groundbreaking, but useful features and optimizations:
- You can finally set a .webp image file as your desktop wallpaper.
- The Storage Settings page now scans temporary files much faster and reclaims disk space.
- The Windows Update page is now more responsive when you click Check for Updates.
- New emoji next to 16.0 release — harp, splatter, face with dark circles under the eyes, etc. (hard related).
Of course, we still have a long way to go in terms of getting Windows 11 back to the promised land.
In order for the OS to run more smoothly (by reducing the amount of memory currently consumed by the system), it must be optimized and made more efficient. RAM crisis), and my dream is to see Microsoft tackle the many unnecessary pop-ups advertising the various services you subscribe to along with advertising.
But this is definitely a small step in the right direction. All of these features will be rolled out gradually, so if you’re part of the Windows Insider program, don’t expect to see them all right away.
