Both teams, the Adelaide 36ers and New Zealand Breakers, will be out to make history as they battle it out in the first-ever Ignite Cup Final, presented on Disney+, on Sunday.
Both teams finished in the top two after four Ignite Cup matches of the year, qualifying for the first final on the Gold Coast.
The Breakers are determined to finish the season on a high note after missing out on a postseason berth, but the Thirty-Sixers still have a Finals campaign to worry about.
But guard Flynn Cameron says that’s not Adelaide’s focus right now.
“We have a great opportunity” [to do something special] On the Gold Coast,” Cameron said during the club’s media availability this week.
“That’s where I’m from, so I’m going to really work hard.” [the Final] I have friends and family there.
“This is an opportunity for us to be the first team to win an Ignite Cup final. [so we’re not taking this opportunity for granted]”
Cameron, who has loved the first season of the Ignite Cup, also admits it hasn’t been easy, with the Breakers presenting plenty of challenges in every meeting during Hungry Jack’s NBL26 season.
“We don’t want to get too far ahead,” he said.
“Obviously we beat New Zealand recently, but it wasn’t easy and it was a close call.
“We’re definitely going to have to give it our all on Sunday.”
Sunday’s historic match will be broadcast live on ESPN and Channel 10 at 4:30pm AEDT, with each team competing for the top prize of $300,000.
