February 2, 2026 Reuters Long-held expectations that the global obesity drug market would reach $150 billion over the next 10 years are being revised amid falling prices and increased competition for GLP-1 drugs in the United States. New forecasts show the market will reach nearly $100 billion by 2030, about 30% less than previous predictions. Furthermore, it is expected that it will not reach the $150 billion level until 2035.

Jefferies slashed its peak market forecast by 20% in January, citing pressure from cash competition and stronger-than-expected generic drug entry. The company’s market size in 2035 is expected to be $80 billion.

Even with these revised assumptions, LSEG’s consensus estimates still project Eli Lilly & Company (NYSE:LLY) to deliver revenue growth of more than 21% and adjusted earnings growth of more than 40% in 2026 compared to 2025.

Against this backdrop of demand, Lilly outlined its strategic initiatives two days ago.

January 30, 2026 Eli Lilly & Company (NYSE: LLY) announced the construction of a $3.5 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania, its fourth new location in the United States. As GLP-1 competition accelerates, the plant will produce injectable weight loss drugs like letaltortide, and construction is expected to begin this year and begin operations in 2031.

Eli Lilly & Company (NYSE:LLY) develops and commercializes innovative medicines across diabetes, obesity, oncology, immunology and neuroscience.
