An arrest warrant has been issued for WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis on suspicion of domestic violence from October. Warrants have been issued for charges including false imprisonment, assault and attempted kidnapping.
Miami Gardens (Florida) police held a press conference on Wednesday. MGPD Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty said he is working with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to locate Davis.
“At this time, the Miami Gardens Police Department is actively working with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force to locate and apprehend Mr. Davis,” Giunty said. “Domestic violence is a serious crime, and the Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to holding perpetrators accountable and protecting victims.”
The incident occurred on October 27th at a men’s club in Miami Gardens where the woman worked. A few days after the incident, his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossell filed a lawsuit. The lawsuit, obtained by ESPN, alleges that Davis entered a gentlemen’s club where Rossell was working as a VIP cocktail server and assaulted her in the club’s back room, where there were no cameras.
Davis allegedly grabbed the woman by the back of her head, pulled her with one hand, and held her by the throat with the other while forcibly dragging her to the stairs, the kitchen, and the back door before assaulting her in the parking lot. She was eventually released by Davis to a co-worker, sustaining a bruise on her left arm.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the club and said it corroborated the woman’s story.
“The investigation revealed that Mr. Davis used force to restrain the victim in an attempt to remove him from the location,” Giunty said at an MGPD news conference.
Roselle said she had known Davis since 2022 and had been in a close relationship with him for about five months. The relationship ended a month before the incident, and she “blocked all forms of communication with Mr. Davis after the relationship ended,” Ms Jeanty added.
“The police’s statements are completely consistent with our case, so we determined that whatever investigation the police conducted was sufficient to get a judge to sign an arrest warrant,” Rossell’s attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, told ESPN. “The state attorney has had to make decisions before, and it’s exactly consistent with our civil case.”
The lawsuit was filed two weeks before Davis was scheduled to face Jake Paul in a boxing match at Miami’s Caseya Center. However, Davis was removed from the fight and Paul instead faced Anthony Joshua in December.
Davis has a well-documented history of legal troubles, including charges related to domestic violence and fleeing the scene of a car accident. Some of his cases have been dropped, but he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and three years of probation for a 2023 hit-and-run in Baltimore.
It’s unclear whether Davis’ latest alleged missteps violate his probation stemming from the Baltimore incident.
