Punjab FC will look to build on their morale-boosting win against Bengaluru FC when they take on NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Monday.

In their previous match, Punjab took advantage of a first-half brace from Nigerian striker Effiong Nsunsugi to beat Bengaluru 2-0 away from home.

NEUFC has yet to achieve a victory. They lost their first match against East Bengal and drew their last two matches.

Punjab coach Panagiotis Dilmperis remains wary of the threat posed by the Guwahati-based team.

“NEUFC has a lot of attacking patterns, especially with a very hard-working midfield. They are a very active and aggressive team with young players who are hungry to prove themselves in Indian football,” he said during the pre-match virtual press conference on Sunday.

“We focus on certain things related to the opponent, which helps us prepare the players and the team for real game conditions.”

According to Dilmperis, the performance against Bengaluru highlighted some concerns. “There were certain moments of the game in which the players did not have the desired discipline or concentration. That is my main concern and we are working during the week on those moments,” he observed.
